Why are so many women taking anti-depressants?
A staggering 1 in 11 people over 16 in the UK are taking antidepressants according to NHS Prescription data in 2019. In every age group twice as many women as men were taking antidepressants.
But, what if your depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain?
If you are feeling low, lacking energy and focus, lost interest in life or feeling like there is no point any more there may be other ways to help.
Depression can be a sign that something needs to change in your life
You can get past this. Your life is so much more than your current struggles, suffering and circumstances.
If you are someone who is used to being busy and active one of the hardest things to deal with is the inertia. You want to move forward but you can’t seem to make it happen. You feel stuck, helpless and life is passing you by.
I get it, I’ve been there with many of those feelings and that’s exactly why I am so determined to help other women overcome depression in a healthy, natural way.
You are not a machine with broken parts. You are a human being with unmet needs. Johann Hari
As human beings we all have very similar basic needs.
On a physical level we need warmth, shelter and security.
On an emotional level we need to feel loved for who we are, we need to be seen, heard and appreciated. We also need to live a life of meaning, purpose and contribution to feel fulfilled.
When those basic needs are not met it can show up as suffering, stress, negative thinking patterns, overthinking, anxiety, paranoia, feeling like a burden .... and depression.
If you really want to figure out the cause of your depression
try asking yourself the following questions
Am I following my heart’s desire?
What is your heart's desire? Are you doing what you love? What have you always wanted to do? Can you remember what you loved to do when you were a child?
What harsh, critical words am I saying to myself every day?
It's up to you whether you choose to say harsh words or be kind to yourself. Your subconscious mind doesn't know which is which. But your mind will always do what you think it wants you to do. So, think about what you are saying and choose to say good, positive, empowering things to yourself.
Is my diet and lifestyle affecting me?
What we choose to eat and drink, how we spend our time, what media we consume, whether we get enough sleep all affects us. If you take a moment to think about your diet and lifestyle there may be one or two small tweaks that would make a big difference to the way you feel.
Do I feel out of control?
There are many things that you can't control in life but the one thing you can control is your thinking. Your thinking determines your perception. Become aware of your thoughts and if they are not serving you in a positive way it might be worth changing them
Where is my life lacking connection?
Are you connecting enough with other people? doing things that you feel passionate about?
How I can help
My role, with the help of Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is to help you see what really lies beneath your depression. To understand together how the words that you say to yourself and the pictures you make in your mind are not serving your best interest. To dig deep into your true passion and purpose so you can find and follow your heart's desire. And if this comes up, to help you find ways of connecting to others, to the community.
Nutrition and gut health has also been shown to have a huge positive impact on shifting depression. My clients benefit from a personalised nutrition plan to give both mind and body the best foods for healing.
My final thought for you
I don't want you to suffer a moment longer.
If you are feeling depressed ... please remember it doesn’t have to be that way ... I may well be able to help you.
